What’s Really Happening in Your Body

When you go through a demanding day, your body releases cortisol. Cortisol is a chemical often referred to as the stress hormone. It helps you stay alert, focused, and ready handle what’s in front of you.

The thing is, cortisol isn’t meant to stay elevated all day. It’s designed to rise when you need it—and fall when you don’t. Cortisol is meant to be released in short bursts of time. It’s not meant to be elevated for long periods of time.

Your day may need constant attention. It could also involve decision-making and emotional energy. In such cases, your body can stay in that heightened state longer than expected. This is not ideal and can be extremely damaging to your health.
